Professional Gelcoats
Professional gelcoats for versatile applications
We present a wide range of gelcoats from the internationally recognised company Ineos Composites. We offer different types of gelcoat for versatile applications. These products are resin-based and form a special protective coating that protects the object from mechanical damage, UV rays, and aggressive chemical environments. Gelcoats are usually produced from epoxy and polyester resins. On request, we can carry out gelcoat tinting in any colour found in the RAL and Instint palette, as well as according to a sample provided. By implementing a rigorous quality control system, we ensure that the gelcoat colouring process using pigment pastes produces satisfactory results every time.
The described technical parameters are confirmed by the attached certificates. Gelcoat application should always be carried out by an experienced person. Applying a layer that is too thin can result in an uncured gelcoat, while a layer that is too thick can develop scratches or deformations. Gelcoat painting should therefore be carried out according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The most common errors during coating application include: incorrect working temperature, using too much or too little hardener, poor mould preparation, too much spray pressure or applying the laminate too early. All this means that defects in the gelcoat surface start to become visible, so the result is unsatisfactory and the work has to be repeated, resulting in a waste of time and money.
The most common applications for gelcoats are the manufacture of products for the construction industry, sanitary facilities, sports and leisure facilities (swimming pools, ladders, slides), machine parts and vehicles. They are also commonly used in the yachting industry. We have products suitable for manual application and for spraying.
Large selection of gelcoats
The wide range makes it easy to select the right product for specific applications. Orthophthalic gelcoat is designed for objects that will not be exposed to extreme weather conditions (interiors, containers, tanks). It is characterised by its relatively low price and ease of processing. The range includes white orthophthalic gelcoats with the possibility of colouring.
Isophthalic gelcoat is used for industrial production. It can be modified with acrylics to increase its resistance to environmental factors. It is also characterised by a reduced amount of styrene. This gelcoat is designed for long-term protection of objects and components. It is resistant to ageing – the colours do not lose saturation or turn yellow over the years. The excellent properties are confirmed by preliminary tests in ageing chambers, where the gelcoat is exposed to changing weather conditions. IZO NPG gelcoats, on the other hand, provide excellent protection against seawater and various types of contaminants present in the environment.
Specialised chemical-resistant gelcoats are available in transparent and coloured versions. Their purpose is to create a durable protective coating against the negative effects of chemicals such as acids and organic solvents. They are used in pipelines, tanks and electrolytic baths, among other applications. All gelcoat types are thoroughly tested before they go on sale.
Self-extinguishing gelcoats are used wherever minimum smoke emissions must be ensured during combustion. They can mainly be found in means of transport (trams, trains, buses, metros) as well as electrical boxes. The primer gelcoats, whether isophthalic, IZO NPG, or orthophthalic, form a resistant, easy-to-sand layer under paint or varnish. Every epoxy and polyester gelcoat available comes with a manufacturer’s guarantee. A special type of product is tool gelcoat, used to create moulds. It generally contains additives to increase thixotropy.
In order to give the applied coating a shine, it is recommended to polish the gelcoat using specialised agents (polishing paste).
